My fellow Americans... Just what is it that makes us Americans? are we really a land of irreconcilable faiths, cultures, classes, opinions and ways of being? Is this nation as polarized as recent elections indicate? What does "Red State" and "Blue State" mean to you?







I Jonathon Tellier, have set out to find out a little bit about what makes my home state of California tick... I have been perplexed as of late at the growing lack of intelligent and civil discourse between those of us who just don't agree with one another... Therefore, I devised a plan to bring together people from the Red part of my state to share a space with the folks from the Blue parts... I began by creating a little survey forged in my own image that I hope will shed a little light on the issues of the day and that will offer us all a little food for thought... On the following pages you will be able to view these questions and add your own responses to those that I will display...







To help get this project off the ground... I will be tying my surveys to helium balloons and releasing them over San Francisco, Stockton and Sacramento California where they will land in a perfectly anonymous manner at the feet of "any" American who might just be happening by... And it may very well be that you are viewing this site because you received one of my balloon surveys...







To encourage the viewer's participation, I will be offering up $200.00 of my own hard earned cash to a lucky someone who finds one of my "balloon surveys" and sends it in to the address shown on the tear off portion of the card... Each survey has an original number between 1 and 1000... Each number I receive before October 20th of 2005 will be joined in an open raffle... I will be publishing the lucky number on this very website after October 21st of 2005... The drawing will take place at 8pm on the night of October 21st at the Mission 17 Gallery which is located at 2111 Mission street, suite 410 in San Francisco...







I thought I would offer up to the lucky winner something a little more useful than cash as we all know how sometimes plain old cash can be as much of a curse as a blessing... I felt a whole lot better offering the lucky winner a gift certificate for something that they can decide is most useful... I figure that we all need security to sleep good at night and well we all need to be well fed to be content and obviously the price of gas is going up so the lucky winner gets a $200.00 gift certificate from either their favorite grocery, gas station or gun shop... Then they will get to choose which matters most...
